Sudden Cloudburst Claims Three Lives in India

(MENAFN) A sudden cloudburst struck Mandi town in Himachal Pradesh, a northern mountainous state of India, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and leaving several others unaccounted for, a local official confirmed Tuesday.

The intense downpour triggered massive landslides that engulfed approximately 20 vehicles and flooded numerous homes with mud and debris cascading down the hills.

In addition, the primary highway linking the mountainous region to the adjoining plains was rendered impassable as thick layers of slush and debris blocked the route. Authorities are actively working to clear the roadway and restore safe passage for traffic.

Media outlets report that this year’s monsoon season has caused the state to suffer financial damages estimated at 15.23 billion Indian Rupees (about 175.34 million U.S. dollars).
